Aim and Scope

Aim and Scope: Media Gizi Ilmiah Indonesia (MGII/ Media Scientific Nutrition Indonesia) publishes various types of research such as research results and literature review in the scientific field of nutrition. MGII publishes 2 times a year. MGII publishes the results of research and literature review on the scope of Clinical Nutrition, Molecular Nutrition, Community Nutrition, Sports Nutrition, Institutional Nutrition, Food Technology, Functional Food, Food Service Management and Disaster Nutrition. Manuscripts submitted must follow the MGII instructions or guidelines for authors. Manuscripts outside the scope of MGII will be returned.

Publication And Authorship: 

List of references, financial support; - no plagiarism, no fraudulent data; - forbidden to publish the same research in more than one journal.

Peer Review Process: The articles are primarily evaluated by our internal experts and screeners who check the articles for any methodological deficiencies, format and conformance with the journal's instructions. Then, a double-blind review is carried out, the article will be reviewed by at least two external (peer) reviewers. Their comments will be forwarded to the authors and their response to the comments along with the reviewers' comments will then be evaluated by the Chief Editor, and the final reviewers who may become members of the Editorial Board. The final review process will be discussed in regular editorial board sessions and based on comments, the Chief Editor will decide which articles should be published.

Editorial Independence:  The Editor of Media Gizi Ilmiah Indonesia (MGII/ Media Scientific Nutrition Indonesia) evaluates and accepts articles only based on their significance, originality, validity, and adherence to the objectives and scope of the journal.

Review of Manuscripts: All manuscripts submitted correctly to MGII will be reviewed first by the editor. Some manuscripts will be returned to the author at this stage if the paper is deemed unfit for publication at MGII, if the paper does not meet the submission requirements, or if the paper is deemed not to have a high enough priority, according to the scope of the journal. All papers deemed suitable by the editors to advance further in the review process will undergo appropriate peer review and all papers provisionally accepted for publication will undergo a detailed statistical review.

Please note: All authors of articles accepted are required to sign an authorization statement. If your article is accepted for publication. you will be required to submit this form immediately: a delay in submitting the form signed by all authors will result in a delay in publication.

Requirements for Different Types of Articles

Original articles:  Must contain a structured abstract, 3-5 keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusion, acknowledgments (if any), references, maximum 5 tables and 4 images. It should not exceed 3500 words in length (4500 words for clinical trials) excluding references, abstracts, figures and tables. 15-40 references can be stated for the original article. Different types of original articles include clinical trials, case-control studies, cohort studies, and cross-sectional studies.

Clinical Trials : The CONSORT checklist should be considered and the CONSORT flowchart should be added for illustration. RCTs must be registered and their registration number must be stated on the title page.

Observational Studies (case-control studies, cohort studies, and cross-sectional studies) : The STROBE checklist should be considered. In addition, the PRISMA checklist should be checked for meta-analysis and systematic review.

Animal Studies:  Authors must follow  ARRIVE guidelines (Animal Research: In Vivo Experiment Reporting)  for animal studies. The genotype, strain, source, sex, and age of the animal studied must be included in the manuscript. All animal studies must be approved by the appropriate institutional review board.

Review Articles:  Must contain an unstructured abstract, up to 40 references and 5000 words.

Narrative Review: A narrative review should contain a critical assessment of the current knowledge of the field.

Systematic Reviews And Meta-Analyses:   Systematic reviews of RCTs or observational studies will be accepted by the journal. Research protocols must comply with PRISMA or MOOSE guidelines for systematic review of individual RCTs or observational studies.

Manuscript Section:  Should be divided into the following sections: (1) Title page, (2) Abstract and Keywords, (3) Introduction, (4) Method, (5) Results, (6) Discussion, (7) Conclusion (8) ) Suggestions (9) Acknowledgments, (10) Conflict of interest, (11) Bibliography, (12) Attachments (if any).

General Format :

Prepare your manuscript text using a word processing package (save in *.doc, *.docs format). Sending text in the form of PDF files is not allowed. Manuscripts must be single spaced, including text, tables, and bibliography. Numbering of each page and each line is required. Enter the text according to the style and order of the journal. Type references in the correct MGII. Writing cannot be justified, without hyphens, except for compound words. Type a title in journal style. Use the TAB key once to indent paragraphs. If possible use Times New Roman for the text font 11 and Symbols and special characters. Use word processor formatting features to indicate Bold, Italic, Greek, Math, Superscript, and Subscript characters. Clearly identify unusual Greek symbols and letters. Distinguish between the letters O and zero, and the letters I and l and the number 1. Mark the approximate position of each figure and table. Check the final copy of your paper carefully, as any spelling errors and mistakes can be translated into a typed version.

Paper Preparations: 

Title page must include 1- article title; 2- author's name; 3- the name of the institution where the work was carried out; 4- full postal address, telephone/fax number, and email address of the correspondence author, and 5- author contributions, this page is unnumbered.

Abstracts must be prepared for the original article and briefly provide background/research objectives, methods, results, and conclusions. It shouldn't exceed 250 words at all. Number this page as page 1. It is best not to mention abbreviations in the abstract.

Keywords are used for indexing purposes; each article must provide 3-5 keywords selected from Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).

Introduction  must provide context or background and determine the purpose or research objectives of the study or observation.

Methods  should clearly indicate the steps taken to obtain the information. Ensure that it only includes information that was available at the time the research plan or protocol was written. These should be detailed (including: inclusion and exclusion criteria, etc.) and can be separated into subsections. Repeating standard engineering details is best avoided.

For Randomized Controlled Trials reports, authors should refer to the CONSORT statement (http://www.consort-statement.org/). All randomized clinical trials must be registered at any WHO-approved international RCT registry center (https://www.who.int/clinical-trials-registry-platform/network/who-data-set ) . 

Reporting guidelines such as STROBE, STARD and PRISMA will help you produce high-quality research and provide all the necessary information and evidence for related methodologies. The EQUATOR Network website will assist you in using this guide.

Statistics : The software used for the statistical analysis and the actual description of the method must be mentioned. All manuscripts selected for publication will be reviewed for the suitability and accuracy of the statistical methods used and the interpretation of the statistical results. All submitted papers must explain in the method section specifically, the method used to test the hypothesis testing and (if any) the level of significance used for hypothesis testing.

Results:  should be presented in chronological order in text, tables and illustrations. Organize results according to their importance. They must be the result of your own studies.

Tables and illustrations:  must be quoted in the order they appear in the text; use Arabic numerals. Tables should be simple and should not duplicate information in the text of the paper. Tables should also be captioned above and explanatory footnotes below. The p in the p must be italicized. For radiographic, scan and other diagnostic images, as well as images of pathology specimens or photomicrographs, submit them in high resolution in jpeg. 

Images : Images should be limited to the number required for clarity and must not duplicate data provided in tables or text. It must be of high quality so that resolution reduction can be avoided. Drawings must not be larger than 125 (height) x 180 (width) mm (5 x 7 inches) and must be submitted in a separate file from the manuscript.format Jpeg with a minimum resolution of 300 pixels for color images and photographs, and 1200 pixels for black and white images.

Discussion:  should emphasize new and important aspects of research. Then a possible mechanism or explanation for this finding should be explored. The limitations of the study and the implications of the findings for future research or clinical practice should be explored.

Conclusion:  must state the final results that have been (have) been achieved by the author and answer the problems and objectives of the research. Repetition of other research results should not be included in this section.

Conflict of interest: All authors must make a formal statement at the time of submission indicating there is no potential conflict of interest which could embarrass any of the authors of the article. Such conflicts may include, but are not limited to. All authors must submit a Conflict of interest statement for publication at the end of the article.

Additional Materials:  such as pictures, questionnaires, etc. can be published in an online version of the journal.

References: must be filled in numerically according to the order of quotations in the Vancouver. Minimum number of references is 20 for Original Article and 40 for Review Article, last 5 years. References must be managed by Endnote or Mendeley software. References written by more than 3 authors, please include the names of the first three authors and represent the other authors with the phrase "et al."

References is written in single space (or at least 12pt), between bibliography is given 1 space. Some examples of how to write references in the bibliography are given below.

Language and Style:

Contributions must be in Indonesian or English. Texts should be clear and concise, conforming to acceptable standards of style and use of Indonesian and English. Speakers of non-scientific Indonesian or English may be advised to seek professional assistance with these languages.

All material must be typed on single spaced numbered pages. Abbreviations must be standardized and used only in necessary cases, after a full explanation in the first use. The editor has the right to edit the submitted manuscript to suit the style of the journal. After all, the author is responsible for the published material.
